Volunteering at Madrona Elementary
The Madrona PTSA believes we are a stronger school community when we all work together to support our students, staff, and each other. We value the diverse skill-sets and life experiences that our parents, families, and community members bring to our school, and we strive to make volunteering accessible to all who have time and talents to share. Our goal is to make sure that every Madrona community member knows how to get involved and feels welcome to do so, as much or as little as they want to and are able.
How to get started …
Email email@example.com to be added to our monthly VOlunteer Updates!
Visit the Seattle Public schools Website to complete your online volunteEr application if you plan to volunteer with students during the school day.
This Process includes:
A one-time 17-minute online class called “Adult Sexual Misconduct Prevention” (ASMP)
A one-time requirement to upload your picture ID
An annual Background Check and
An annual Field Trip Chaperone Form.
Note: Families who do not have a computer or Internet access may complete the online application and ASMP class in the school library. Email firstname.lastname@example.org or call the school at 206.252.3100 for assistance.
Check out our online Signups Page for up-to-date opportunities or click on one of the options below:
Volunteers are needed to help set up before the event, serve food during breakfast, attend the event as a guest and greet students during the “high five tunnel,” and help clean up after the event so the Gym and Cafeteria can be ready for students as quickly as possible.
The PTSA hosts a monthly luncheon to show our gratitude to the hard-working and dedicated staff of Madrona. The next potluck luncheon will be hosted by 4th grade parents on Wednesday, February 13th in the 2nd Floor Staff Lounge. The theme will be a baked potato bar with all the fixins'.
Sign-up to support students through the exciting Dance Party Hour of Code tutorial. You don't need to be a computer science expert -- just be willing to encourage students, share your curiosity, and inspire creativity.
Volunteers are needed to assist Ms. Schwochow's kindergartners with their Scholar Math and Reading lessons. Volunteers will work 1-on-1 or in small groups to support students. Scholar Reading is Monday though Friday from 9:20 to 9:50am. Scholar Math is Monday through Friday from 11:40-12:10am. Parents must complete the SPS online volunteer application and background check process before volunteering in class.
Join the Family Resource Center Team
Madrona's volunteer-run Family Resource Center recently saw an influx of food and clothing donations. Thanks to our generous school community, families experiencing hardship will have access to items they need this winter! Volunteers are needed to help organize and hang up donations by size and type, wash items that need laundering in our on-site facility, separate and deliver items that can't be used to Goodwill, and arrange the shelf-stable foods for easier access. This work can be done whenever is convenient for you while the school building is open (M-F | 7:30am-6pm). Please contact Family Resource Center Co-Chair Gwen Kiehne at email@example.com with any questions.

Calling all chaperones!
Field trips are in full swing, and all families are encouraged to participate if they can! Your child's Room Parent will be in touch when field trip opportunities arise. Before volunteering as a field trip chaperone, please review and sign the following document (in addition to the standard volunteer application/Background Check): "Guidelines for Volunteer Chaperones" and “Field Trip Chaperone Form.”
Thanks to everyone who attended one of our eight Parent & Family Volunteer Orientation sessions in the Fall. Orientations are a great way to learn more about Madrona and some of the systems our teachers and staff use to help our students learn and grow. We don't have any more orientations scheduled at this time, but Volunteer Co-Coordinators Ginger and Sarah are available to meet with volunteers 1-on-1 as needed. If you would like to learn more about volunteering, please email us at: email@example.com or call/text Sarah at 206.669.5749.
Room Parent Program
All families are welcome to volunteer at Madrona Elementary. Whether you have a lot of time to give: chaperone a field trip! Or a little: make copies at school, cut shapes at home! You are encouraged to support your child’s classroom. Look for emails from your class’s Room Parent with volunteer opportunities, or reach out to your child’s teacher with what interests you!
