Volunteering at Madrona Elementary

The Madrona PTSA believes we are stronger when we work together to support our students, staff, and each other.  We value the diverse skillsets and life experiences that our parents and families bring to our school, and we strive to make volunteering accessible to all.  As Parent & Family Volunteer Coordinators, our goal is to make sure that every Madrona family knows how to get involved and feels welcome to do so, as much or as little as they want and are able.

How to get started …

Sign up online for a Madrona Family Volunteer Orientation in the School Library at the time that works best for you:

  • Tuesday, 9/25 | 12:45-2:15pm

  • Thursday, 9/27 | 9:30-11am

  • Wednesday, 10/3 | 8-9:30am

  • Friday, 10/5 | 10:30am-12pm

  • Monday, 10/8 | 5:30-7pm

If none of these times work for you, please contact MadronaVolunteers@gmail.com to schedule a time that fits your schedule.

Visit the SPS Website to complete your online application, which includes:

  • A 17-minute online class called “Adult Sexual Misconduct Prevention” (ASMP)

  • A background check and

  • A requirement to upload your picture ID

Note: Families who do not have a computer or Internet access may complete the application and ASMP class during their orientation.

Ways you can contribute ...

  • Chaperone a Field Trip

  • Lead an after-school program

  • Volunteer in your child’s classroom

  • Sign up to be a Room Parent to support your child’s classroom teacher

  • Run a Popcorn Friday (1st Friday of each Month)

  • Bring food for a Staff Appreciation Potluck (3rd Wednesday of each Month)

  • Become a Lunch or Recess Monitor

  • Join the Community Outreach Committee and help plan our community-building events:

    • Multicultural Night (November 15th)

    • Madrona High Five (January 11th)

    • MLK Day March (January 21st)

    • SBA Breakfast (April TBD)

    • Fish Fry (May 31st)

    • School Tours for Prospective Families (various dates in Winter and Spring)

  • Join the Fundraising Team, and help plan these fundraising activities:

    • Jogathon (October 19th)

    • Annual Ask (Nov-Dec)

    • Bullpup-Panther Classic (March 14th)

    • Mayfair Hotdog Stand (May 11th)

    • Fish Fry (May 31st)

  • Join the Academic Enrichment Committee to help plan these events:

    • Hour of Code (Dec 3rd-7th)

    • Spelling Bee (Feb TBD)

    • Science Fair (June 6th)

    • Drop Everything And Read (June TBD)

  • Help the Arts-Infused Education Committee plan the Disney Musical (April 4th & 5th) and other fun arts activities throughout the year

  • Come to a Garden Work Party (October 20th & other dates throughout the year)

  • Organize uniform donations in the Family Resource Center

  • Work on administrative projects (cutting out shapes, stapling, folding, etc.) from home

  • Help our art teacher hang up artwork in the hallways

  • Become a Reading Partner
