Jog-a-Thon

It's been a very busy start to the year, so to give us all time to catch our breath we've moved the date of Madrona's Annual Jog-a-Thon to Friday, October 18th (from the previous September date). The event takes place at Madrona Playfield (rain location: Madrona Gym). This is the PTSA’s biggest fundraiser of the year, and we hope to beat last year's $30,000 raise to support arts education, field trips, teacher stipends, mindfulness and so much more. Fundraising envelopes with instructions for setting up your student's online fundraising page will be going home next week.

Students will run laps for 15 min (K-1), 20 minutes (2-3), or 30 minutes (4-5). The class that runs the most laps and the class that raises the most money both win awesome prizes.

Volunteers are needed from 10am-2pm to set up the field, help teachers walk students from school to the park, count laps using electronic trackers, cheer students on, hand out snacks, and clean up at the end. Instructions to sign up are coming shortly.

Joggingly yours,

Anne Rakunas

Madrona Marches on MLK Day

Join the Madrona Contingent for the 37th Annual MLK Day March!

There is NO SCHOOL on Monday, January 21st, but many members of the Madrona Community will participate in the MLK Day March from Garfield High School to Westlake Park.  We will meet at the bottom of the Garfield High School steps at 12:15pm and begin marching as a group behind our Madrona banner around 12:30pm.  Whether you walk for the entire event or just a few blocks, marching together can be a powerful statement of solidarity with our school and larger community.

This year’s theme is “Affirmative Action = Justice.” The Seattle MLK Jr. Organizing Coalition will have signs featuring the theme available for free at the event, but homemade signs are also encouraged and can be a fun way to include and inspire students to activism! The organizing coalition has planned an entire day of events honoring Dr. King.  For more information about the event, visit: https://www.seattlemlkcoalition.org/.
