Madrona Marches on MLK Day

Join the Madrona Contingent for the 37th Annual MLK Day March!

There is NO SCHOOL on Monday, January 21st, but many members of the Madrona Community will participate in the MLK Day March from Garfield High School to Westlake Park.  We will meet at the bottom of the Garfield High School steps at 12:15pm and begin marching as a group behind our Madrona banner around 12:30pm.  Whether you walk for the entire event or just a few blocks, marching together can be a powerful statement of solidarity with our school and larger community.

This year’s theme is “Affirmative Action = Justice.” The Seattle MLK Jr. Organizing Coalition will have signs featuring the theme available for free at the event, but homemade signs are also encouraged and can be a fun way to include and inspire students to activism! The organizing coalition has planned an entire day of events honoring Dr. King.  For more information about the event, visit: https://www.seattlemlkcoalition.org/.

Madrona Elementary’s Annual Jogathon is Friday, October 19th at Madrona Playfield (rain location: Madrona Gym). Students will run laps for 15 min (k-1), 20 minutes (2-3), or 30 minutes (4-5). The class that runs the most laps and the class that raises the most money both win awesome prizes.

SBAC Breakfast for 3rd-5th Grade Students & Families

School Gym

Every year, Madrona hosts a Breakfast for 3rd-5th grade students and their families to celebrate their hard work in preparing for the statewide SBAC exams.  This year's breakfast will be held on Tuesday, April 24th from 8-9am in the Gym, and it will feature inspirational speaker Erin Jones, who was the first Black woman candidate for statewide office in Washington in 2016, as our Keynote Speaker.

Volunteers are needed to help set up tables and chairs the night before, serve food during the event, and clean up afterwards. Because the families of older kids are invited guests at the breakfast, we ask our K-2 families and community volunteers to step up that day if possible.  Members of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority will also help serve food that day.

Volunteers needed: Monday, April 23 | 4-5pm (set-up) / Tuesday, April 24 | 7:45-9:30am (food service/clean-up).  Click here to sign up to help with the SBAC Breakfast.
