Welcome to the home of Madrona Elementary PTSA

A "2018 School of Distinction"

The Madrona Panther Partners

Madrona Elementary is a vibrant neighborhood school serving Seattle's Central District. The Madrona Elementary PTSA is a very active part of our strong, diverse community and works hard to support every child who comes through our doors. Madrona Elementary is an arts-infused school, which means that we believe that arts education creates an engaging school environment for our children and has a positive impact on academic success. We are so proud of our school and the continuous progress we have been making. We welcome you to explore our dynamic community!

Dear Madrona Family and Friends,

The Madrona PTSA needs your help. The PTSA works hard every day to build up our school and serve every student who comes through our doors. Madrona Elementary is a Title I school, meaning that about half of our students are low-income and qualify for a free or reduced lunch. This means that many of our families cannot contribute to the PTSA and our budget is very small compared with most of the schools in this area.

You may have noticed that the PTSA does not have a big auction like other schools around here. We have made a conscious decision to focus our considerable volunteer efforts on building our school community, supporting our teachers, and serving our students.

Nevertheless, the PTSA has been very effective in how it spends money and we have accomplished great things. All of the money we raise from the community goes directly to supporting our students and teachers. We fund the Arts Infused Education Program, which pays for field trips, teaching artists, and school plays (The Jungle Book, The Lion King, 101 Dalmatians). We provide teachers with an annual stipend for supplies, give each student a healthy afternoon snack every day, and fund Green Plate Special, a garden education program for grades 3-5. We have developed now-legendary community events, including Multicultural Night in the Fall, the High Five in the Winter, and the Fish Fry in the Spring. We also just completed our new playground, which is now open to the community. Madrona Elementary is getting better every year, but we need your help to keep moving forward.

There are many ways to help our fundraising efforts. You can host a House Party for Madrona, where you invite friends and family over, tell them about our school, and ask them to donate. You can create a donation campaign on Facebook to reach out to friends and families that way. You can even offer your own matching funds to give incentives to your donors. Check out our website, www.madronapts.org, where we have instructions on how to participate in fundraising.

The most direct way is to make a donation directly to the PTSA. Please consider donating as much as your family can afford to the PTSA to support all of the things we do for our students. We know that for some families that will mean giving $5, and for others it will mean giving $5,000. Every contribution is valuable. We only ask that you give as much as you can. Go to www.madronaptsa.org/donate, or bring a check to the front office.

Thank you! Madrona PTSA Board

3rd Annual Fish Fry

Community, Food & Student Music Performances
Madrona's 3rd Annual Fish Fry is Friday, May 31st on the School Playground. The Fish Fry is a community event this year, not a fundraiser. Tickets are pay-what-you-can at the door. There is a suggested donation of $10 per adult and $5 per child, but no Madrona Families will be turned away. We will serve fried fish, coleslaw, mac-n-cheese, roasted corn, and strawberry shortcake. K-5 students will also be performing during the Fish Fry! This concert is the culmination of their work with Adefua, the West African Drumming, Dance & Culture group, during music classes in May. Volunteers are needed to help set up and cook 2-5pm, serve food and run the PTSA Table in shifts 5-8pm, and clean up 8-9pm.

4th Annual Madrona Science Fair

We are currently recruiting members of the community to work with students as Science Fair judges in two shifts on Tuesday, June 18 (8:30-10:30am and 12-2pm). No experience is necessary, but an interest in science and willingness to engage children in conversation are appreciated. Volunteers are also needed to help run our evening event, including set-up, serving dinner, assisting at community demonstration sessions, and clean-up.
